An oil pipeline in the Sabunchu field near Baku burst last night, spilling crude oil over a 50-square-metre area.
Fire did not break out at the scene, APA reported, quoting the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The burst occurred in a 200-mm pipeline passing through the Sabunchu oil collecting point.
The leak was stopped by 00.30 Baku time by oil company employees and the spilt oil was covered with soil.
Firefighters were on hand until the leak was made safe.
An investigation is under way.
