Monument to great Azerbaijan poet Sabir to be erected in Belgium

Agreement to put a statue in memory of Sabir in Thuin was reached during a recent meeting of the head of Azerbaijan-Belgium inter-parliamentary group.

A monument to the great poet of Azerbaijan Mirza Alakbar Sabir will be erected in Thuin, a Walloon municipality located in the Belgian province of Hainaut.

Mirza Alakbar Sabir was born in 1862 in Shamakhy, Azerbaijan. Sabir was a public figure, philosopher, teacher and a poet-innovator. He set up an inspiring attitude to classical traditions, rejecting well-trodden ways in poetry.

The agreement to put a statue in memory of Sabir in Thuin was reached during a recent meeting of the head of Azerbaijan-Belgium inter-parliamentary group, MP Elkhan Suleymanov with the Member of Belgium parliament, Head of the Belgium-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary group, mayor of Brussels Philip Blanshart.
