Baku hosts scientific symposium on Puppet Theater

An int'l scientific symposium held in Azerbaijan.

An int'l scientific symposium called “Puppet world of the East and West: idea, progress and technology” held in the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theatre.

The symposium took place within the framework of the 1st International Puppet Theatre Festival held in Baku co-organized by Azerbaijan Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the International Association of Puppet Theatres (UNIMA- Union Internationale de la Marionnette) and the Joint Administration of Turkic Arts and Culture.

The aim of the symposium attended by culture and art figures, art critics and representatives of mass media is to discuss issues concerning puppet theaters of the East and West and exchange views to the effect.

Addressing the event, Azerbaijani deputy minister of Culture and Tourism Adalat Valiyev said that the 1st International Puppet Theatre Festival in Baku was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan`s independence.

Adalat Valiyev noted that the progress was achieved in this field thanks to the national leader Heydar Aliyev, stressing his care and attention to the development of theatre.

`Nowadays Azerbaijani theatres expand as a result of the successor of Heydar Aliyev policy, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev`s care and attention.”

“The First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO goodwill ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva`s unexampled services to the improvement of national culture are great support to the development of theatre,“ he added.

Azeri deputy minister also provided information on the 1st Baku International Puppet Biennale organized by Azerbaijan Ministry of Culture and Tourism to be held in Art Galley of the Museum Center here on Friday.

The scientific symposium brought together General Secretary of UNIMA Jacques Trudeau, vice president of UNIMA Stanislav Doubrava, president of UNIMA-Turkey National Center Mevlut Ozhan, president of the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People (ASSITEJ- Association Internationale du Théâtre de l`Enfance et la Jeunesse) Yvette Hardie, Secretary General of the International Association of Theatre Critics Michel Vaïs, coordinator of the International Theatre Institution on the Middle East Ibrahim Assiri, the director of the Fujairah International Monodram Festival Mohammed Saif Al Alkham, rector of Georgian Ilia State University Levan Khetaguri and others.
