President Ilham Aliyev has conferred the title National Hero on Mubariz Ibrahimov, whose body has not yet been returned by Armenia.

The president conferred the title on Warrant Officer Mubariz Ibrahimov for his exceptional contribution to the protection of the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan and for bravery in battle, the presidential press service reported.

The head of state also signed an order that National Hero Mubariz Ibrahimov should be remembered. The order instructs the Cabinet of Ministers to consider naming a secondary school and a street in Bilasuvar after Mubariz Ibrahimov.

Mubariz Ibrahimov was killed in a clash with Armenian forces near the village of Chayli in Azerbaijan’s Terter (Tartar) District during the night of 18-19 June. Ibrahimov killed several Armenian soldiers, before falling in battle. The 22-year-old warrant officer's body remained on the Armenian-controlled side of the contact line, separating Armenian and Azerbaijani troops.

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian placed the blame for the clash on Azerbaijan.

The Armenian side has still not returned the body to Azerbaijan, despite the intervention of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
