Azerbaijan flag hoisted in New York

The Azerbaijan Society of America has conducted a ceremony of raising the Azerbaijan flag to mark the 18th anniversary of independence of Azerbaijan in the New York City.

The national anthems of both countries were played as national flags of both countries were flown on the Wall Street. The ceremony was attended by President of the ASA Tomris Azeri, head of the permanent mission of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Agshin Mehdiyev, deputy consul general of Turkey in New York Bashar Shen, Azerbaijanis living in the states of New York and New Jersey, representatives of the Turkish and Jewish communities.

Addressing the ceremony, Agshin Mehdiyev told of the history of independence and Azerbaijan`s role in the international and regional arena.

Tomris Azeri said this event became regular. According to her, the fact that flags of both countries were raised is the symbol of shared values and friendly ties between the two nations.
