A terrorist act in Baku Metro occurred on 3 July, 1994.

Oxu.Az reports that the bomb exploded at 8:30 in the second electric train, which left the station "28 May", at a time when the train was about five hundred meters from the station platform "Ganjlik".

After the explosion, electric cars flashed. The attack killed 13 people, another 58 passengers were injured.

A citizen of Azerbaijan Azer Aslanov  was arrested in Moscow upon the explosion in electric train between stations "Ganjlik" and "May 28". He was extradited to Azerbaijan on November 29, 1997.

It has to be noted that similar explosion occurred at 13:00 at the metro station "January 20" on March 19, 1994. Homemade time bomb exploded in the main train car at the moment when the train stopped at the station.

During a terrorist attack 14 people were killed, another 49 were injured. Executive terrorist Oqtay Gurbanov died in the explosion. Among the dead was an Azeri jazz musician, People's Artist of Azerbaijan Rafig Babayev. Metro station ceiling partially collapsed after the explosion. In 1998, Aslan showed that he received the designation to hold the attack being in captivity, from publicist Zori Balayan. Court sentenced the terrorist to life imprisonment. The investigation revealed that the instructors of a terrorist act were members of the special services of Armenia Colonel Karen Baghdasaryan and captain Seyran Sargsyan.

Referring to Aslanov's story, the Azerbaijani court decree also instituted criminal proceedings against Balayan. In 1999, on the basis of the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan, Interpol announced him as a dangerous criminal, and then the prosecutor's office of Azerbaijan put him on the international wanted list in the CIS countries.

However, in 2001, Interpol considered the questio and excluded Balayan from the list of wanted persons.
