Azerbaijan may join GLONASS system development.

Oxu.Az reports citing RIA Novosti that the statement came from head of Azercosmos Rashad Nabiyev speaking on Friday.

"Azerbaijan and Russia are cooperating in various directions. At some moment, if we manage to become part, to promote the system development, we may join but this requires mutual understanding between the sides," he said.

GLONASS is the Russian analogue of US GPS navigation system, though being the last in the list for the accuracy of positioning. The local system will be able to compete with GPS only when its accuracy achieves the indicator of less than 1 meter.
