Ben Affleck dropped a total of TL 340,000 (167,782 euros) on six carpets, which he intends to use as props for his upcoming movie 'Argo,' in the famous Grand Bazaar of Istanbul.
The actor, who has antique carpets in California, was reportedly not satisfied with them as they were not very original. Upon entering the carpet store Imperio Otomano, located inside the Grand Bazaar, Affleck made clear that he wanted carpets that were unique and one of a kind.
The actor, who liked a particular small carpet, was shocked when he heard that the price was 150,000 euros and responded by saying “Ooh la la” and added in broken Turkish, “Pahalı pahalı” (literally translates to “expensive, expensive”). Although he did not purchase this particular carpet, he managed to make everyone laugh by delicately caressing the carpet. Affleck took pictures of each carpet that he viewed and sent them to his wife, actress Jennifer Garner, via MMS. He purchased a total of six carpets after bargaining with the carpet seller, who arranged a reasonable price for the actor.
Purchased carpets: Antique Iranian Melayir: 51,000 euros, Kayseri silk: 39,882 euros, Antique Iranian embroidered silk: 8,900 euros, Antique Ushak: 24,000 euros, Antique Hereke: 20,000 euros, Antique Iranian Shiraz: 24,000 euros.
