The film God's Creation is to be shown at a special event this evening to mark National Cinema Day in Azerbaijan.

The film God's Creation was commissioned by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism from the Bizim Kino (Our Cinema) production company.

This evening's event, which begins at 19.00 at the Young Spectators' Theatre in Baku, includes an exhibition of costumes owned by Azerbaijanfilm and a ceremony to present awards to the winners of a competition for those involved in film-making.

National Cinema Day has been celebrated in Azerbaijan since 2001, after a decree by the late president, Heydar Aliyev.

The first films in Azerbaijan were made by Russian-born photographer Alexander Michon and given their first public showing on 2 August 1898.

Michon's films showed life in and around Baku and include The Oil Gusher at Balakhani and Caucasian Dance.

Azerbaijani cinema has developed since 1898. One of its most recent award winners is the film The Precinct, whose young star Timur Odushov won a Young Talent award in Hollywood.
