Shortlist announced for Azerbaijan's National Book Award

The shortlist of 20 works competing for Azerbaijan's first National Book Award has been declared.

Award founder Nigar Kocharli presented the list at a press conference today. The works, selected by a panel of experts from a long-list of 20 books, are:

1. Sharif Agayar: “The Brick-Maker's Tale" (novel)
2. Alabbas Bagirov: “The Rebels" (novel)
3. Nariman Abdulrahmanli: "Alone” (novel)
4. Samit Aliyev: “Seven Steps Towards Sunset" (novella, in Russian)
5. Eyvaz Allazoglu: “Return of the Woodcutter" (novel)
6. Elkhan Qaraqan: “A” (novel)
7. Kamran Nazirli: Collected stories
8. Ajdar Ol: Story portrait
9. Rafiq Tagi: Collected stories
10. Fakhri Ugurlu: Collected stories

Nigar Kocharli said that a jury would select the winner from the shortlist. The winner will be announced in May.

In all, 265 works were submitted for consideration for the award, of which 205 were in Azerbaijani and 60 in Russian.

All works on the shortlist will be published in book form and distributed to libraries free of charge.

The main sponsor of the project is Azercell Telecom, while the official sponsors are Azersun Holding and Garant Sighorta. The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Youth and Sport.
