Tramways to be laid in Azerbaijan's Ganja

Soft-running trams will move at a speed of 70 km / h.

The project construction of tramways in Ganja is still on the agenda.

Oxu.Az reports referring to Marja that, according to the head of the Executive Power of Ganja Elmar Valiyev, a contract with "Newt" is expected to be signed in mid 2015.

The project will start in 2015. The work on specification of new lines, routes for the construction of tramways is underway. Trams are planned to be purchased from the French company "SYSTRA".

It has to be noted that the memorandum was signed between the Ganja City Executive Power and the French company "Newtl" on November 20, last year.

The tram cars are planned to be of blue color with national ornaments.

The length of one tram is 25 meters, width - 2 meters 20 centimeters, and weight - 23 tons. Tram on wheels will be coated in rubber, so the tram will move almost silently. The maximum speed will be 70 kilometers per hour.

The tram route will start from the railway station building and to the Emergency Hospital. 12 stops will be set on the route of a tram and each of them will be equipped  with an electronic board displaying the schedule of trams.

The bike paths will be laid parallel to the tram line.

The first tram line in Ganja was laid in 1923. It was eliminated in the 1980s.
