Hand-woven carpets worth $5.5 million were exported to China last year (ended March 20), said head of Iran’s National Carpet Center.

Talking to IRNA, Faysal Mardasi added that this is while the figure for the year 2009 hardly hit $400,000.

Stating that a good leap is seen in carpet export in 2010, he also noted that if carry-on-luggage is added to the amount of export in 2010, the figure will rise considerably.

The increasing trend of carpet export to China indicates that grounds are prepared for raising exports to the country, Mardasi said.

Referring to holding two carpet exhibitions in China during the past four months and dispatch of a commercial delegation to the country, he said that given the high capacity of the Chinese market, Iranian merchants can promote their exports to the country.
