Azerbaijan able to contribute to whole region's development – envoy

The Washington office of the American Jewish Committee has hosted an event on Azerbaijan.

The event held in the form of a business lunch was attended by Azerbaijani Ambassador to the US Elin Suleymanov, the Embassy told Gun.Az.

The business lunch involved well-known representatives of the US Jewish community, diplomats, experts on the region and representatives of academic circles.

Addressing the event, the ambassador first expressed his gratitude for the Committee's interest in Azerbaijan and recalled the recent successful visit of Committee's Executive Director David Harris to Azerbaijan. Suleymanov spoke about the fact that Azerbaijan is a factor of stability and development in a very sensitive region. He noted that today Azerbaijan is willing and capable of contributing to development of the whole region.

The diplomat noted the role of women in Azerbaijan, the majority of population of which is Muslims, and establishment of ethnic and religious tolerance in the society.

He emphasized the personal attention of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to development of intercultural dialogue and increase of Azerbaijan's role in this process.

Referring to Azerbaijani-Israeli relations, Suleymanov said that Azerbaijani and Jewish people were historically friends, and current relations between the two countries fit the spirit of this strong friendship.

He said that cooperation evolving dynamically in different spheres meets interests of both countries and stressed the importance of continuation of this cooperation.
