A new flag square is under construction at the point where the Baku road enters the city of Ganja, an official has said.

The chairman of the Ganja Housing and Utilities Union, Elgun Mammadov said, that the square would be part of a Ganja gates and fortress complex which is being built at the eastern entrance to the city.

The complex will have a 70-metre high flagpole and a flat 16m x 30m, Gun.Az reports.

The construction of the complex will finish by the end of this year.

After the construction of the third flag square, fortress complexes will be also built at the entrances to the city on the Shamkir and Goygol roads. They will also have flag squares.

The highest flagpole in Ganja, 100 m tall, stands on the right bank of the Ganja River, while the second flag flies outside the city's executive authorities.
