Taekwondo place for Azerbaijan in London Olympics

Azerbaijani taekwondo practitioner Farida Azizova (67 kg) has won a licence to compete in the 2012 Olympics in London.

She claimed her place by reaching the final of the world taekwondo qualification tournament which started in Baku today.

Farida beat opponents from Slovakia, the USA, Canada and Sweden on her way to the final. where she will meet South Korea's Min Yung Kim.

This is Azerbaijan's first ever Olympic place in women's taekwondo.

The three best male and female practitioners in each of the four weight categories will gain licences at the Baku tournament.

In all, 345 taekwondo martial artists from 109 countries are competing in Baku.

Farida Azizova's is Azerbaijan's second Olympic place, as hammer thrower Dmitriy Marshin has already won a licence.
