Azerbaijani judo wrestler wins bronze in world championship

World Judo Championship involving Azerbaijani athletes has started in Paris.

Three of the Azerbaijani wrestlers took the mat on the first day of competition. Ilgar Mushkiyev (60 kg) distinguished himself becoming medalist.

Mushkiyev, in turn, defeated rivals from Bulgaria, Holland and France, but then lost to future world champion Rishod Sobirov of Uzbekistan.

After that Ilgar had two consolation bouts to win the bronze. He beat Russian citizen of Armenian descent Arsen Galstyan and Korean Gwang-Hyun Choi which earned him third place.

In the same weight category Nijat Shikhalizade lost to Austrian judo wrestler right at the start. Tarlan Karimov (66kg), beating opponents from Romania, Latvia and Hungary, later lost to Russian wrestler and then to Korean rival in consolidation bout.

Renat Mirzaliyev (73 kg) and Kifayat Gasimova (57 kg) will take the mat today.
