Former US Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern will assume the position of assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian Affairs.

Heffern, commenting on the new position, has said the assignment is temporary, Trend reports.

“Thanks for all the good wishes. This is temporary assignment as the new team gets in place,” he said on Twitter.

The diplomat added he looks forward to working with European partners.
