Azerbaijan celebrates Eid al-Adha
Azerbaijan is celebrating Eid al-Adha today.
Observed annually across the Muslim world, Eid al-Adha begins on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah according to the Islamic Hijri calendar, News.Az reports.
This year, the holiday corresponds to May 27 on the Gregorian calendar.
Eid prayers are being held in mosques throughout the country today.

In Baku, prayers are scheduled to take place at 8:00 a.m. at the Ajdarbay Mosque and at 9:00 a.m. at the Tazapir Mosque.
Animal sacrifices connected with the holiday may be performed today and tomorrow. The process will be conducted in line with Sharia rules under the supervision of clerics from the Caucasus Muslims Office at locations specially designated by the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency in Baku, nearby areas, and other regions of the country.
Following the restoration of Azerbaijan’s independence, Eid al-Adha was recognized as a state holiday under the law “On Holidays of the Republic of Azerbaijan,” adopted by the Milli Majlis on Oct. 27, 1992.
According to a decision by the Cabinet of Ministers, May 27 and 28 have been declared public holidays for Eid al-Adha this year.
