The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 9.73 degrees south latitude and 97.57 degrees east longitude, News.Az reports, citing Indonesian media.
In a statement, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the earthquake's epicenter was located 835 km southwest of Bengkulu, at a depth of 30 kilometers.
The department confirmed that the earthquake poses no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
