Syrian envoy to Russia reportedly seeks political asylum

Syrian Ambassador Bashar Jaafari has reportedly requested political asylum in Russia after being recalled to Damascus, according to a source who spoke to Russia's state news agency TASS on Monday.
“The Syrian ambassador has requested asylum in the Russian Federation,” the source said, without providing further details.
There was no immediate comment from Syria or Russian authorities on the matter.
