The deputy chief minister of India’s wealthiest state, Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, was killed on Wednesday after his charter aircraft crashed and burst into flames, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

A small aircraft crashed into a pond in the city of Prayagraj in India’s Uttar Pradesh state on Wednesday, sparking panic among local residents.

India’s Supreme Court stated on Friday that a preliminary report on the June Air India crash that killed 260 people does not imply any fault on the part of the captain.

A preliminary report revealed that there was confusion in the cockpit just before an Air India jetliner crashed last month, killing 260 people. The report indicated that the plane's engine fuel cutoff switches were flipped almost simultaneously, depriving the engines of fuel.

India will send the black box recovered from the recent fatally crashed Air India plane to the U.S. for analysis, according to the Economic Times.
