Kasparov reportedly introduced Peter Ajak, a Harvard scholar accused of planning to lead South Sudan in 2024, to Robert Granieri, co-founder of the investment firm Jane Street.
Granieri is said to have provided Ajak with millions of dollars to purchase weapons for the coup attempt.
Kasparov, in a statement to Bloomberg, did not address his involvement in the case directly, but emphasized that he has dedicated most of his life to defending civil rights and promoting democracy worldwide.
