The Netherlands will hold a general election on October 29, following the withdrawal of far-right leader Geert Wilders and his Freedom Party from the Dutch government earlier this week.

The Dutch government collapsed on Tuesday, likely leading to a snap election, after anti-Muslim politician Geert Wilders withdrew from the right-wing coalition, accusing other parties of not supporting his stricter immigration policies.

Following the collapse of a ceasefire in the Middle East, the Dutch government will now evaluate exports of military equipment and dual-use goods to Israel on a case-by-case basis.

Due to ongoing geopolitical tensions, the Dutch government aims to more than double the size of its armed forces, increasing the number of personnel from 70,000 to 200,000.
