Germany’s top military commander disclosed on Monday that his aircraft was subjected to Russian GPS jamming attacks on two separate occasions while flying over the Baltic Sea region in recent months.

The European Union plans to deploy additional low Earth orbit satellites and enhance detection systems to counter GPS interference, EU Defence Commissioner Andrius Kubilius said Monday.

Lithuania has accused Russia of escalating GPS jamming activities from its Kaliningrad enclave, with aviation safety increasingly at risk. According to Lithuania’s air traffic control company, Oro Navigacija, pilots reported 1,022 cases of GPS interference in June — a dramatic rise from just 46 incidents in the same month last year.

North Korea has carried out GPS jamming attacks for the second consecutive day, impacting several ships and dozens of civilian aircraft, according to South Korea's military.

Russia interfered with the GPS signals of over 140 British Royal Air Force (RAF) flights over Eastern Europe this year, The Sunday Telegraph has reported.
