Spain, Germany, Italy, Austria, and Portugal have officially urged the European Commission to implement a unified windfall tax on energy companies, citing the surge in oil prices due to the ongoing war in Iran.

Brent crude oil, the international benchmark, topped 90 U.S. dollars per barrel during Friday's session, the first time since April 2024, trading data showed.

Oil prices were steady on Friday and on course for a weekly gain of more than 3% as U.S. jobs data calmed demand concerns and fears of a widening Middle East conflict persisted, News.az reports citing Reuters .
