Billie Eilish has spoken about living with Tourette’s syndrome and the effort she makes to suppress her tics while appearing in public and during interviews.

The singer, who was diagnosed with the neurological condition at the age of 11, explained that she experiences involuntary vocal and physical tics, but is often able to keep them under control in professional settings. She said that most of her vocal tics are small noises, though she also experiences physical movements that are not always visible to others, News.Az reports, citing Tyla.

Speaking about her condition, Eilish said she spends a significant amount of energy trying to suppress her tics while on camera or in interviews, and only allows them to come out once she is no longer in public. She described this process as something she does constantly when working or being interviewed.

Tourette’s syndrome is a neurological disorder that causes sudden and repetitive movements or sounds known as tics, which can vary in severity and are often influenced by stress, excitement, or tiredness.

Eilish also said that people often misunderstand the condition and may not realize she is experiencing tics even when she appears still. She explained that many of her physical tics are subtle and can happen out of sight.

The singer has previously spoken about the challenges of living with Tourette’s and has said that managing the condition can be exhausting, particularly when trying to maintain control in public situations.
