Africa is experiencing “the worst outbreak of cholera in 25 years,” with a surge of cases in Burundi and Angola, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) announced.

More than 6,800 people have died from cholera outbreaks across Africa this year, a sharp rise compared to last year, according to data released Thursday by the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) reported that nearly 2,000 people have died from the ongoing mpox outbreak across the continent since the start of 2024.

On Tuesday, Africa unveiled a continental cholera emergency preparedness and response plan covering September 2025 to February 2026.
