TikTok has been charged by European Union regulators with breaching online content rules, in a case that could force the company to redesign key parts of its app or face major financial penalties.

The U.S. State Department has sharply criticized Europe’s approach to online content moderation, labeling the European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA) as a tool for “Orwellian censorship.”

Under the DSA, X is required to assess and mitigate systemic risks, including the spread of illegal or harmful content generated by AI tools like Grok. The Commission now has the power to demand information, launch investigations, or impose fines of up to 6% of global annual revenue.
