The Georgian parliament has approved a law on foreign agents in a third and final reading, which closely mirrors the U.S. Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).

Constitutional Court of Georgia refused to suspend the law on foreign agents, as requested by the country's President Salome Zurabishvili, following the court's ruling, News.Az reports citing Gazeta.Ru.

The United States has not ruled out imposing additional restrictions on Georgia in response to the country's new law on the transparency of foreign influence, also known as “foreign agents law”.

Denmark has ceased providing military aid to Georgia due to the country's adoption of the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence, also known as the law on foreign agents.

The European Union Ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Herczynski, expressed regret at an international conference in Tbilisi that EU leaders had decided to suspend Georgia's accession process to the EU. He stated, "The intentions of the current Georgian government remain unclear to EU leaders. Anti-Western and anti-European rhetoric is completely incompatible with the goal of joining the EU. Unfortunately, Georgia's admission to the EU is currently on hold."

The European Union has halted Georgia’s accession talks amid strained ties over Tbilisi’s controversial “foreign influence” law, the bloc’s top diplomat in the South Caucasus country said Tuesday, News.Az reports citing the Moscow Times.

Georgia’s Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday signed the controversial “foreign agents bill” into law, News.Az reports citing Georgian media.

Kakha Kaladze, Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party and Mayor of Tbilisi, has accused Western politicians of exerting unprecedented pressure on Georgia regarding the newly adopted law on transparency of foreign influence.

Several EU countries are pushing for sanctions against Georgia, including the suspension of visa-free travel to the bloc, in response to the government’s defiant stance on its Russian-inspired “foreign agents” law, News.Az reports citing the Financial Times.

The ruling Georgian Dream - Democratic party stated that the Venice Commission's conclusion on the law on foreign agents has no legal basis, Member of the parliamentary majority Salome Kurasbediani said at a briefing, News.az reports.
