Pakistan and Azerbaijan discuss future prospects of naval relations

Azerbaijani and Pakistani senior naval officials met in Islamabad on Friday to discuss the current state and future prospects of cooperation between the two countries’ navies.

The Azerbaijani delegation, led by Commander of the Naval Forces Rear Admiral Shahin Mammadov, held talks with Pakistan’s Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf. The sides highlighted the importance of conducting joint naval exercises to promote the exchange of experience and enhance the professionalism of naval personnel, News.Az reports, citing the Ministry of Defence.

Rear Admiral Mammadov also met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif and stressed that expanding cooperation with Pakistan in the defence sphere remains a priority for Azerbaijan’s leadership.

During the meeting, the sides underlined the significance of Azerbaijan–Pakistan military relations and expressed confidence that mutual visits would contribute positively to the development of bilateral cooperation.

Following a meeting with Commander Pakistan Fleet Vice Admiral Abdul Munib, Rear Admiral Mammadov visited Azerbaijani servicemen undergoing training in Pakistan and inquired about their education.

As part of the visit, the Azerbaijani naval commander familiarised himself with the conditions at Pakistan’s ship repair facilities.

Rear Admiral Mammadov’s visit to Pakistan is considered important for advancing cooperation between the naval forces of both countries, as well as for strengthening military education and military-technical collaboration.
