The Georgian Foreign Ministry has expressed hope that recent developments in Venezuela will lead the Venezuelan authorities to revoke their “recognition” of Georgia’s breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has reaffirmed that Tbilisi’s policy towards Russia is guided by clear red lines linked to the occupation of Georgian territories.

Moscow has once again urged Tbilisi to sign a legally binding agreement pledging not to use force against Georgia’s Russian-backed separatist regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The appeal followed a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry after the 65th round of Geneva discussions on security and stability in the South Caucasus, News.Az reports, citing Georgian media.

Badra Gunba, who was elected president of Abkhazia on March 2, has officially been inaugurated as the leader of the republic.

Aslan Bzhania, the president of the self-declared republic of Abkhazia, resigned following widespread protests against an investment deal that offered favorable incentives to Russian enterprises. Critics argue that the deal would bolster Moscow's influence in the region, News.azreports citing Kyiv Post.

On Friday, protesters breached the premises of Abkhazia’s parliament in Sukhumi, voicing strong opposition to a contentious investment agreement with Russia.
