Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Shio III has called for prayers for what he described as a “great reconciliation” with Abkhazians and Ossetians, saying the country’s reunification is a task that cannot be achieved through “human efforts alone”.

Aslan Bzhania, the president of the self-declared republic of Abkhazia, resigned following widespread protests against an investment deal that offered favorable incentives to Russian enterprises. Critics argue that the deal would bolster Moscow's influence in the region, News.azreports citing Kyiv Post.

On Friday, protesters breached the premises of Abkhazia’s parliament in Sukhumi, voicing strong opposition to a contentious investment agreement with Russia.
