Nigerian troops have killed at least 18 militants in coordinated operations in the country’s northeast, according to the military, as security forces step up efforts against long-running insurgencies in the region.

Nigerian troops carried out a series of anti-terror raids in the northeastern states of Borno and Yobe between April 17 and 23, eliminating at least 31 suspected terrorists and freeing multiple hostages, said the military on Saturday.

More than 200 people are feared to have been killed after military jets struck an area near a village market in northeast Nigeria, according to local officials and residents.

At least 23 people have been killed and more than 100 injured following suspected triple suicide bomb attacks in Maiduguri, authorities said.

Nigerian troops have repelled coordinated attacks by Islamist militant groups on two military bases in Borno state, in what the army described as some of the most intense clashes in northeastern Nigeria this year.

All three million children in Borno state in Northeast Nigeria are without school indefinitely, increasing the likelihood of child marriage and other protection risks, after being hit by the worst floods in 30 years, Save the Children said, News.Az reports.
