French security forces in New Caledonia killed two men during an overnight operation, bringing the total death toll to 13 amid ongoing unrest in the French Pacific territory, the public prosecutor has announced.

The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) on Thursday urged French authorities to put an end to their neo-colonial policy and ensure the freedom of the Kanak people.

French soldiers will remain in New Caledonia as long as necessary, France’s President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday.
