France has confirmed the death of a second soldier who was wounded in an attack on a UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) patrol in southern Lebanon, raising further concerns about the safety of peacekeepers in the region.

The U.N. peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported that two of its members were killed on Monday in southern Lebanon when an explosion of "unknown origin" destroyed their vehicle.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun vowed to punish those responsible for the attack on a United Nations peacekeeping convoy, with authorities scheduled to hold an emergency meeting on Saturday.
