At least 50 people have died and 15 others have been missing in central China since late July after the region was hit by typhoon-induced heavy rains and floods.

Authorities in eastern China evacuated nearly 300,000 people and suspended public transport on Friday as Typhoon Gaemi unleashed torrential rains, News.Az reports citing foreign media.

The number of deaths caused by heavy rains, massive flooding and landslides triggered by the southwest monsoon, intensified by Typhoon Gaemi, has risen to 21, police said on Thursday.

A Philippine-flagged tanker carrying 1.4 million litres of industrial fuel oil capsized and sank off Manila on Thursday, authorities reported, as they worked to contain a spill extending several kilometers, News.Az reports citing AFP.
