The exchange of fire erupted on Thursday in the Saranda forest area of West Singhbhum district, around 200 kilometres south of Ranchi, the state capital, News.Az reports, citing Xinhua.
Police officials said the gunfight continued throughout the day, with search operations in the area extending until late at night.
According to police, government forces did not suffer any losses during the operation.
