European car sales rose in March on strong electric vehicle and hybrid sales, industry data showed on Thursday, with Tesla and BYD logging strong sales growth from last year. 

Hybrid-electric vehicles overtook purely petrol-powered cars as the most popular powertrain choice among consumers in Europe last year, data released on Tuesday showed.

US electric vehicle (EV) giant Tesla saw its sales in the European Union fall 34.2% year-on-year in November, according to data released Tuesday by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).
