A second aid convoy carrying vital supplies reached the southern Syrian city of Suwayda on Wednesday, days after deadly clashes between Druze militias and Sunni Bedouin tribes left hundreds dead and tens of thousands displaced.

The US State Department announced on Monday that an American citizen was killed amid the unrest in the southern Syrian city of Suwayda last week.

Armed clashes between Bedouin tribal fighters and local armed groups raged on Saturday in Syria's Suwayda province, despite the ongoing efforts of internal security forces to implement a nationwide ceasefire.

On Friday, Bedouin tribal fighters clashed with local Druze forces in Syria’s southern Suwayda province, just a day after reported revenge attacks sparked by a government withdrawal ignited a new wave of sectarian violence.

Intense fighting erupted Friday between armed Druze factions and Bedouin tribal forces near the western entrance of Suwayda city in southern Syria, further destabilizing the already fragile region.

Syria’s Interior Ministry has announced that security forces are preparing to redeploy in the Suwayda province to restore order following renewed clashes between Druze and Bedouin tribes.

According to the ministry’s statement, the agreement stipulates an immediate halt to all military operations, a commitment from all parties to cease escalation and attacks against security forces and checkpoints, and the deployment of internal security and police units across As-Suwayda and its surrounding areas.
