5.9-magnitude earthquake hits off Indonesia’s Tanimbar Islands

A strong 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia’s Tanimbar Islands in Maluku province early Saturday, according to the US Geological Survey.

The quake occurred at 6:20 a.m. local time in Tanimbar Islands, with a depth of 27 kilometers (16.7 miles), News.Az reports, citing foreign media.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The tremor followed a separate 5.8-magnitude earthquake south of Java on Friday, which damaged buildings and injured 36 people.
