Passengers in the Baku Metro will soon be able to see in advance which train carriages are less crowded, according to the head of the Baku Metro CJSC, Vusal Aslanov.

Passenger entry has been temporarily restricted across all stations of the Baku Metro following a technical malfunction in the system’s power supply, authorities said on April 21.

Smoke was reported on a passenger train at Baku Metro’s Nariman Narimanov station, prompting the evacuation of passengers before service was quickly restored, officials said.

A new metro station in Baku is set to open in 2026 as part of Azerbaijan’s large-scale transport infrastructure development program, officials announced on Tuesday.

Photographs of the design for Baku’s upcoming metro station, temporarily named “B-4”, have been released, giving the public a glimpse of the modern structure. The station will be located on Jalil Mammadguluzade Street, behind the Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex and near the 1st Clinical Medical Center.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved $225,000 in technical assistance for the expansion of the Baku Metro in Azerbaijan.
