A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck the Eastern Mediterranean on Monday morning, seismic monitoring services reported.

A ballistic munition launched from Iran was neutralized by NATO air and missile defense assets deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean after it entered Türkiye’s airspace today, according to the Turkish Ministry of National Defense.

As the conflict between Iran and Israel continues to escalate, several major regional and European powers have begun strengthening their military presence around the island.

State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) is broadening its international presence with a landmark acquisition in the Eastern Mediterranean energy arena. On January 31, 2025, SOCAR signed an agreement with Union Energy to acquire a 10% effective stake in the Tamar gas field—one of the region’s most strategically significant energy assets—located offshore of Israel.

The agency’s Eastern Mediterranean Region reported the highest number of cases, followed by the African Region, the Region of the Americas, the Southeast Asia Region, and the European Region, according to UN News.
