Three Swedish citizens have been fined after throwing stones across the border into Russian territory from Norway, an incident that may appear harmless at first glance but is treated as a legal offense under Norwegian law.

Norway has pledged more than €9 million to support repairs and safety upgrades at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant site in northern Ukraine.

Police reported that each of the three individuals was fined NOK 8,000 (€730) for an incident that occurred in Grense Jakobselv, along the northernmost part of the 198-kilometre land border between Norway and Russia.

Norway is providing more than €9 million to repair the protective sarcophagus covering the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant after it was damaged by a Russian drone.

Norway's Borgarting Court of Appeal ruled on Wednesday that Marius Borg Hoiby, son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, will stay in pretrial detention, reversing a lower court decision that had permitted his release.
