The Palmali Group of Companies is to name a ship after Azerbaijani warrant officer Mubariz Ibrahimov.

The Armada-class ship will be launched at Turkey's Besiktas shipyard on 15 October.

The decision to name the vessel in honour of Mubariz Ibrahimov was taken by Palmali's president, Azerbaijani Mubariz Mansimov.

Warrant Officer Mubariz Ibrahimov was killed in a clash with Armenian forces in Azerbaijan’s Terter (Tartar) District during the night of 18-19 June. Ibrahimov killed several Armenian soldiers, before falling in battle.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev conferred the title National Hero on Ibrahimov for his "exceptional contribution to the protection of the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan and for bravery in battle".

Mubariz Ibrahimov's body remained on the Armenian-controlled side of the contact line and has yet to be returned to Azerbaijan.
