A massive new data center project tied to Oracle has secured $16 billion in financing, underscoring the scale of investment flowing into artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Developer Related Digital said the funding will support construction of a large-scale data campus in Michigan, designed to meet soaring demand for AI computing power. The project is backed by a mix of equity and long-term debt, bringing together some of the biggest names in global finance, News.Az reports, citing Reuters.

Funds affiliated with Blackstone are contributing equity, while debt financing is anchored by PIMCO. Reports indicate that PIMCO alone purchased roughly $10 billion in bonds linked to the project, highlighting strong investor appetite for AI-related infrastructure.

The development, located in Saline Township, is expected to exceed one gigawatt of capacity, placing it among the largest data center campuses in the United States. It forms part of a broader collaboration involving OpenAI, Oracle, and Related Digital aimed at rapidly expanding computing capacity for next-generation AI systems.

Construction on the site began earlier this year, as tech companies race to secure the physical infrastructure needed to power increasingly complex models and services.

The deal was structured with support from Bank of America, which helped arrange and sell around $14 billion in bonds. Blackstone’s equity contribution is estimated at about $2 billion.

The scale of the project reflects a wider trend across the tech industry. Giants like Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta are collectively expected to invest hundreds of billions of dollars this year to expand AI infrastructure, according to industry estimates.

As competition intensifies, the focus is shifting from software breakthroughs to the physical backbone of AI—data centers, chips, and energy capacity—turning projects like this into critical assets in the global technology race.
