“Developing worlds and economies are not immune to homelessness. When I volunteered in a poor neighborhood in Lisbon during my student years, I understood much better how living conditions affect human health. We must address informal settlements and slums by ensuring adequate, safe, and affordable housing, and by eliminating inequalities that fuel social tension. Housing is a human right and a foundation of human dignity. This World Urban Forum can be a catalyst for turning this goal into a shared reality. Together, we can provide housing for the world and leave no one behind.”
