U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks has stepped down, Fox News reported in a post on X on Thursday.

Republicans in Congress have advanced a plan to secure long-term funding for U.S. immigration enforcement agencies, including the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)) and Border Patrol, through the remainder of President Donald Trump’s term.

U.S. Border Patrol agents have detained more than 130 people in Charlotte, North Carolina, during the first two days of a major federal immigration operation, authorities confirmed on Monday. The arrests come as President Donald Trump’s nationwide mass-deportation campaign intensifies across southern states.

Authorities have named 21-year-old Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez as the suspect in the shooting of an off-duty U.S. Border Patrol agent late Saturday night in Fort Washington Park, Manhattan. The agent, 42, was shot in the face and arm but is expected to survive.

The US and Mexico agreed to conduct coordinated patrols on their respective sides of the border to enhance security, the Pentagon said Wednesday.

US Border Patrol agents and suspected Mexican cartel members exchanged gunfire near the southern border on Monday as a group of migrants attempted to cross into the US illegally.
