UN climate chief Simon Stiell has issued a powerful call to action, insisting that the massive new climate finance target established during Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency must be fully realized to protect global economies and lives.

The upcoming climate discussions in Baku are set to play a pivotal role in shaping global environmental policy, according to COP30 President Andre Correa do Lago.

The Earth is sending undeniable signals. From rising seas and raging wildfires to melting glaciers, the planet is making it clear that humanity is crossing the critical 1.5°C warming threshold. For decades, global climate warnings have been met with delay and denial, but a powerful counter-signal is finally emerging. Renewable energy is expanding rapidly, forests are being replanted, and cities are being redesigned for sustainability.

Azerbaijan has managed to create a solid legacy at both COP29 and WUF13, Yalchin Rafiyev, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, told journalists during the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.

“Not every country in the world has the capacity and conditions necessary to host events on the scale of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13),” Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, said during the WUF13 forum in Baku.
