The 27 member states of the European Union have formally adopted a regulation to phase out imports of Russian pipeline gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) into the EU.

The European Union has approved a plan to gradually phase out all imports of Russian gas by autumn 2027, a spokesperson for the Danish EU presidency said.

The European Council announced on Wednesday that it has reached an agreement with the European Parliament to phase out all Russian gas imports by 2027, marking a major step in the EU's efforts to end its dependence on Russian energy.

The Council of the European Union has "agreed on its negotiating position regarding the draft regulation to phase out imports of Russian natural gas."

European Union energy ministers have approved a regulation to ban all Russian gas imports by January 2028. This agreement represents a major step in the EU's efforts to reduce its reliance on Russian energy amidst the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Serbia plans to construct a new gas interconnector to boost imports of Azerbaijani natural gas, according to Sasa Kokovic, Acting Assistant to the Minister for Oil and Gas at the Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy.
